Abstract

According to the World Health Organization, diffuse liver lesions are increasing every year, which often end in an irreversible stage and require surgical treatment, among which the most effective is liver transplantation (WHO; 1998). It has been established that disruption of the structure and function of the liver with its diffuse damage has an extremely negative impact on the condition of the periodontium, as a result of which, in combination with other unfavorable factors, it contributes to accelerated tooth loss. Subsequently, rapidly progressing atrophy of the alveolar processes of the jaws significantly complicates orthopedic treatment with the use of intraosseous dental implants. The article presents literature data describing the dental status of patients with diffuse liver lesions and the most common treatment methods aimed at optimizing the dental rehabilitation of this group of patients.
