REFLECTED CULTURAL VALUES IN NEOLOGISMS

Abstract

This study examines youth-generated neologisms in English and Uzbek from a comparative linguocultural and sociocognitive perspective. Drawing on corpus-based evidence and theoretical frameworks proposed by Wilhelm von Humboldt, Edward Sapir, Claire Kramsch, and Pierre Bourdieu, the research explores how neologisms function as cultural-semiotic markers embedded in youth discourse. The findings reveal that English neologisms, largely emerging from digital subcultures, reflect individualism, emotional expressivity, and linguistic democratization, often characterized by semantic fluidity, brevity, and performativity. In contrast, Uzbek neologisms demonstrate stronger ties to institutional discourse, collective values, and normative frameworks, exhibiting structural transparency and semantic stability.
