QUOTED CLAUSES AS A COMPONENT OF POLYCOMPONENTIAL COMPOSITE SENTENCES

Abstract

This article provides a comprehensive analysis of quoted clauses within polycomponential composite sentences (PCCS), focusing on their syntactic hierarchy, semantic functions, and stylistic load. The research material consists of multi-component constructions extracted from contemporary English literary texts. The findings demonstrate that quoted clauses enter into complex syntactic relationships with temporal, causal, resultative, conditional, and explanatory subordinate clauses, functioning as the communicative center of the polycomponential structure. Furthermore, they serve as one of the primary means of ensuring discourse dynamism, enhancing emotional-expressive load, and individualizing character speech.
