COGNITIVE AND SEMANTIC FEATURES OF PROJECT DISCOURSE IN ENGLISH AND UZBEK
Abstract
The article examines the cognitive and semantic features of project discourse in English and Uzbek. The study focuses on how project-related activities are conceptualized and linguistically represented in the two languages. The research is based on a comparative semantic and discourse analysis of lexicographic definitions and contextual usage drawn from professional and official texts. The findings demonstrate that although English and Uzbek project discourse share a common semantic core associated with planning, goal orientation, and future-oriented action, they differ in terms of processuality, functional scope, and discourse structuring. In English, project discourse tends to conceptualize projects as dynamic processes encompassing both planning and implementation stages, whereas in Uzbek it is primarily associated with preliminary planning and formal documentation. These differences are explained by linguistic and socio-cultural factors and are relevant for comparative linguistics and translation studies.
