Abstract

Phraseological units, including idioms, proverbs, and fixed expressions, serve as linguistic and cultural markers, encapsulating the values, traditions, and worldviews of their originating societies. In cross-cultural communication, these units can either enrich interactions by fostering cultural understanding or hinder them due to their figurative and context-dependent nature. This paper examines the role of phraseological units in cross-cultural communication, emphasizing their cultural reflections, challenges in interpretation, and strategies for effective use. By exploring their significance in translation, language learning, and intercultural dialogue, this study highlights the dual potential of phraseological units to bridge or widen cultural gaps.
